noononono not at all. was just saying. some people are very passionate about their like or dislike over this, as past posts have proven. if we can get through a post about religion beliefs and the afterlife, we can certainly handle twilight

I haven't read the books. With good reason. The first chapter of the first novel was posted online, and I was able to take a gander, just to see what all the fuss is about. She writes like a melodramatic fourteen year old.

Fuck sparkly vampires wtf. :[

It's so odd...I have described the writing in the exact same way and the exact same age - "melodramatic 14 year old."

Weird.

They're fun to read, but not to be taken seriously. Oh lord no. =P

That's my opinion though. I'm a fan of the Twilight series and I see the movies on opening day, but that's it. When you think too hard about them things get nasty and I don't see the series as one that portrays romantic relationships and love very well.
So there that's it.

The vampire mythology is far from anything scary/creepy... unless you count Edward watching Bella sleep. Then we get into the unintentional creepiness. =P

Don't forget the "imprinting" on babies. EW.

Imprinting in general is kinda creepy too yeah. =P

Agreed. Oh! And then there's the whole 108-year-old-virgin lusting after a 17-year-old. Ewwwww again.

It's not my cup of tea, but the way I see it is that there are a lot of people out there who don't read *anything*, no books period. I'm the kind of person that is typically juggling a half dozen different books per week and I can't tell you the number of times people have told me --PROUDLY tell me, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast fashion-- that they haven't read a book since high school.

I try to put my book snobbery and vampire elitism into a tiny little box and console myself with the notion that at least these people are reading.

I wish I could.

The way I see it is if someone will read Twilight, then that might open the possibility to reading something else. If it gets people who otherwise don't read *to* read, I call it a minor victory.

And besides, I have a few guilty pleasure books that are so goofy and fluffy they probably qualify as tree murder. In a lot of ways, I live in a glass house. :P

As a warning, I'm not trying to be offensive here, but my views on this series are very negative, so please do not take it personal if you enjoy the series. I'm not a die-hard-hater or anything, but...yeah ( ... )

I agree with you. I was actually confused while reading the first book, to my admittedly untrained eye it was blatantly obvious that the writing and characterization was poor. It was like the author found a check list for Mary Sue characters and ticked every single box while writing.

I know a few people who enjoy the books, I've actually tried to tone down my dislike and have them explain to me what it is about that just appeals to them. The best answer I can get was a very sheepish "It's a love story" IDGI.

Ahaha, seriously! I was just like, what is going /oooon heeereee/. Yeah, a couple of my friends really like the books, so I try not to express my distaste too heavily around them, though they do know why I do not like the series. My one friend who really loves the series was even horrified by all the merchandise though. She practically shrieked in horror when she saw the action figures when we were at Borders.

Your answer was a lot better than mine in terms of what they liked about the series, I pretty much just got: "Edward is so hot." Every time. xD

I don't get it either ahaha.

Ugh, she seriously is. She has no real redeeming qualities at all.
