I was 8 years old when Star Trek came out in 1966, and I wasn’t allowed to watch it then, because there was something my mother wanted to see at that time on another channel. (And in 1966, most households had only one TV.)

But in the summer of 1969, when I was eleven, during the summer reruns of Season Three, my mother had already seen whatever that other show was, and she turned to Star Trek for lack of anything “better.” The date was July 8, 1969, and the episode was “Spock’s Brain.” Yes, the first episode I ever saw was the one that most people claim is the worst ever! I’ll always have a soft spot for it, though, because it was my first. (I also don’t think it’s the worst. Heaven knows it’s not good, but it has a certain goofy charm, which some of the other bad episodes - like “And the Children Shall Lead” - do NOT have ( ... )

This. I finished the movie in the cinema and as the credits rolled I was already telling my friend "Let's see it again! Again! Again!"

I've been a fan all my life - my mom was a TOS fan, so I watched reruns with her, and I grew up on TNG and DS9 (the best of them all, imo), and could not imagine my life without this universe. May it continue to live long and prosper!!!

I remember Star Trek was the only show my whole family would watch together without arguing over it. :) I guess it had enough action and adventure for Dad and my brothers and of course there was Kirk for Mom and Chekov for me ( ... )

I remember watching Star Trek reruns in the 80s on a black and white set, sitting leaned up against the rolls of carpet that hadn't been put down in our new house yet. The first time I saw the Motion Picture I fell asleep twice and woke up and the movie was STILL going on. I got into TNG in the 90s and my mother called it a pale imitation of the original (without seeing it) and then got hooked on it like I did. One of the first things I did when I got a full-time job was start gathering as much as I could on DVD so I can indulge myself in Trek whenever I want and whatever film or episode strikes my fancy, even if I do stay away from the fandom for the most part. Star Trek has gotten me through some pretty crap times in my life and helped shape the writer I became. Because of Trek, part of my soul will always be out there in space.
