OK I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with the movie title, synopsis and poster... But the trailers are making me feel much better about it. I NEVER SHOULD HAVE DOUBTED YOU JJ!

So excited for May 16 I could die... I love and hate how well they are keeping the story under wraps.

With regard to JJ, I learned my lesson the first time around that I should just let him do his thing and I trust him. I was the biggest holdout on the 2009 movie. Like I refused to get on board until after filming had already finished and even then it took a detailed explanation about how they incorporated quantum mechanics before I was satisfied that I could stretch my imagination a bit and accept that explanation. Then I was skeptical of Chris Pine and, well, pretty much everyone else in the cast. Opening night came and I was blown away (I still cry over George and Winona Kirk lol) and vowed to never doubt JJ Abrams again because I was SO wrong the first time around. LOL

I've heard it is! I may have to wonder out to see it. I don't get out to the movies much. Just on special occasions (like Star Trek, Avengers, or Harry Potter or something).

Nope. We'll get to the end of the film and be like "so who did Cumberflaps actually play?"

you joke but it was almost halfway through the 1st movie when my friend whom was seeing it for the first time turned to me and declared 'Of course, Romulans! I had no idea who these people were supposed to be'

I'm feeling a bit hopeful with the info that it'll be a "fun Star Trek adventure" - because I was worried after the first trailer that it would be really dark and negative. A film full of threats and explosions doesn't appeal much to me.

To analyze the intro, without synopsizing for those who don't want spoilers, it does lead me towards the Khan/Eugenics theme. [Spoiler]Just the clue that he has the ability to help a medical condition when other science has failed? Sounds more like Khan than Garth or Gary Mitchell.

[Spoilery Speculation]Could the child be a descendant of Khan?

Yeah I saw somewhere speculation about that. There is even a canon son that he could be playing, and there's still been no word about who Peter Weller is playing.

I found it curious that Peter Weller was not in the trailer at all. But then I realized that Chekov was not in the trailer so I can't read too much into that.
