Data and Geordi, together again

If you haven't watched Brent Spiner's Fresh Hell series, you're missing good fun. The premise is that, post-TNG, he was involved in an "incident" that ruined his career, lost him all his money, and made him one of the most hated people in the world. The series is about him trying to claw his way back.

Anyway, in this ep, he goes to an old friend for ( Read more... )

next generation, hahaha, brent spiner/data

Why did I not know about this?

Probably because I'm bad at twitter.

LeVar, please...put the sweater on or take it off. Do not use it as a man shawl. That is all.

When i was at DragonCon last year, I was waiting in line to meet Wil Wheaton and get his autograph and across the way was Brent Spiner's line, and no one was in his line. It was the last day and I think most people were conned out or leaving Anyway, Brent Spiner gets up from his table and starts trolling Wil's line, handing out little cards and making us promise to watch this series. It was hilarious.

I am so disappointed that I missed Brent last year. But judging by some of the people that comment on Wil's FB page, if you don't like everything "nerds" are into these days (i.e Doctor Who), they kind of view you as the enemy. I was thinking about going to DragonCon this year (despite the noticeable lack of Brent), but if I'm not into exactly the same shit as everyone else, will I not have anyone to talk to other than who I go with? There are some good guests- Trek, B5, Billy West, Patricia Quinn, potential wank with LKH and my husband likes the robotics stuff- but if people aren't going to be welcoming and/or talkative, there's no reason to drive seven hours each way.

I don't like Doctor Who either. And those are not all the guests for dragoncon, they add people up until liek a week before. Last year they added Elizah Dushku about then. But personally, I find Dragoncon a lot more welcoming than regular life. :) You are in line to see a panel for Trek and you know that everyone in that line is a trek fan and you have at least that in common. I dunno, i like DragonCon.

Thanks for the reply! :D I'm glad to hear that there are some welcoming people there. I'm not sure that we'd be able to get a hotel room at this point, but I'm still thinking about it. This would be the first con I've been at for more than two hours (not counting the anime one we're going to in May WHYYYYYYYYYYYY) so I'd hate to have a crappy time.

I stopped following his tweets because they had me wondering just how much of a jerk he might be in real life. Shows he's a good actor though, since Data is so completely unlike the actor playing him.

I actually asked him about that directly at Dragon*Con. I'd debated whether to meet him all weekend, I finally decided, why not? So I went up to him and told him, flat out, that I'd met every other Star Trek actor at the con that weekend, and I'd hesitated to go up to him because "... I've been told that you're mean."

And he actually discussed it. He stared with a sarcastic quip, then dropped the sarcasm and said that he loves playing sarcastic humor and loves meeting the fans. I don't know how much of it was an act, but he was very polite to me. I don't think he's a jerk, but I only have a very small "sample size" of experience to base that on. I think the guy just likes sarcasm a bit too much, and doesn't play it as smoothly as he thinks he does.

Either way, I've met quite a few of the Star Trek actors, and I've never had a bad experience, including Brent Spiner. *shrugs*

I get that vibe from him as well, that if you don't take him seriously and put the sarcasm shades on he's not a bad guy. I had a professor like that--tongue sharp enough to cut a tin can and a really intimidating attitude but if you approached him like "I know you're full of shit and I see through you" he was a quite different person.
