There's nothing like waiting til the last minute to buy your Halloween costume... and that's what I'm doing.  Any suggestions for the best Trek dress (either old-school or new-school)? I know there are a lot of Trek uniform costumes out there, I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as far which brands fit better, if certain ones suck, ( Read more... )

I actually happen to be selling my Trek costume if you're interested. :D

It's not a dress, but it's a wonderful quality reboot command gold shirt. It's way better quality than any of the Rubies costumes out there. Somebody on ebay made it and it's pretty great.

Oh, and as you can see, I just paired it up with some girly skinny black pants. It was more comfortable than a dress for me, but still girlier than straight-up pants.

I made mine out of a blue t-shirt dress I had in my closet for forever and a day. It's a bit darker (okay A LOT darker) than it should be, but the principal is the same if you want to be cheap about it. I just took of the little pocket that was on it, cut the sleeves off of a black crew-neck, and added the ass-kicking boots and VOILA! I also added a utility belt made from a fabric belt and camera case XD.

I've seen Science/Medical TNG uniforms online...but every picture I've seen has completely the wrong color (more like TOS blue than TNG teal) So, officially licensed probably isn't the way to go.

You can buy patterns here: http://www.roddenberry.com/wardrobe/patterns?p=1 for about $15-25. If you're going to be Crusher, you have to make your hair look like a bad wig!

I've got the Rubies TOS Gold dress. I'm 5'7", ~135-140, and I've got the small (The sizing chart at that link is complete crap). Despite being an infamous Starfleet miniskirt, it's one of the only store bought costumes that actually covers my ass, but be prepared to spend your evening doing the Picard Maneuver.

Also, Rubies is threatened by women in high ranking Starfleet positions, so all the female uniforms have lieutenant's insignia. I got my mom to sew extra stripes on my sleeves.

Oh dang, I was looking at this one, thinking of getting it -- and you got it in a small? o-o I was planning on getting it in a small and I'm 5'0 at about 100 lbs so maybe I should opt for the x-small... o-o; This brand must run pretty huge.
Thanks for posting this. I would have bought a costume that would be too big otherwise xD

They run pretty big (I think another factor was I could get it a better deal on it online if I bought a small, so I went ahead and took the chance). Finally found a reference pic:
