Let's see, I save about $2000 a year doing coupons and such... So it'll only take me a 100 years to save up! :D

In all serious, the first version of anything nifty, from medical procedures to fancy cars (or spaceships) are usually too expensive for those who aren't very rich. However, as they work out the kinks and technology starts catching up so it's not as "advanced" and more of something is produced, the price usually drops.

Sweet! Now if we could get the ACTUAL space program moving again...

If the U.S. Government ever decides to start up the space program again, I'm sure they could easily contract these types of companies to either make things for them, outsource the work, or give the government blueprints. If anything, private companies with their resources and the ability to charge mucho bucks to people willing to get a taste of space, they can probably fund new inventions and explorations a lot faster.

Yes I mostly agree. Privatization (with regulation!) of the space industry is probably going to push things forward faster in the long run.

Yes, regulation is key. If they just let everyone do what they like then it could prove potentially hazardous in the future both to individuals and, what might indeed be inevitable, countries raging war over rights to outer space.

I would hope we can treat space like we do the Arctic, no claim on it whatsoever. However, it will probably be like the Antarctic and we'll be all "That atom is be mine" "No it isn't, it moved jussst this side of the territory line" "Nuh uh, yous be encroaching on mah turf, GTFO"
