I'd made a book of drawings of Meryl that I wanted to give to her. So, when she got off the ice after her practice on Friday, I called her over, asked her to sign my copy of the book, told her she'd inspired me, and gave her a copy.

She was kind enough to stop on the way out to pose with the sign, as was Charlie:

And, when I got on the computer that night, I found that she had tweeted about the book, including a photo of a page! Of course, then I tried to write a comment by the attached photo, and, technically inept as I am, I ended up accidentally leaving two similar, gushy comments. I talked to her after her Saturday practice and thanked her for putting the photo up and apologized for the double comments. Then, I was worried that she'd think I was some sort of stalker. I'm not! I'm just a portraitist who can recognize a great face when I see one.
So, here are some other great faces from Skate America:
Aunt Joyce and Tarasova's Mink call Paul Poirier the prettiest skater. He is a marble faun. He and his partner should do a program to L'après-midi d'un faune, with him in a Nijinskiesque costume.

Our young New York pairs team, Zhang & Toth, have a lot of potential and she's got the sweetest little face while he's got that sculptural Hungarian bone structure:
