Kurt Browning's home in Toronto was badly damaged in a fire today. Some reports are saying the home was gutted. 50 firefighters and 12 trucks responded to the 11am fire. The fire was finely extinguished at around 2pm.

FFFFF OMFG :( No, Kurt! That's so sad. I hope he gets lots of help recovering what he's lost. Thank God no one was injured!

Oh that's awful, but at least he's ok. And hopefully he's insured for all trophies and medals, etc. One of our Olympians had a housefire a few years ago and then discovered there was a loophole in her insurance not covering Olympic memorabilia or any from their childhood. Losing all that would be awful.

AND THE SHIT PART? OLYMPIC MEDALS CAN BE RECAST BY THE IOC, HOWEVER MEDALS/TROPHIES/MEMORABILIA IS ONLY INSURED FOR ITS ACTUAL MONETARY WORTH.

My bf's relatives had an Olympic torch stolen. It was insured for it's literal price (as in, cost of the materials, not the fact that ITS AN OLYMPIC TORCH!!) and so they had to pay out of pocket expenses to get one remade from the IOC. And it's not the original torch so it's not really the same thing. They also had Calgary memorabilia stolen that was irreplaceable :(

Wow, that really blows. Glad no one was hurt but I really feel for him and his family.

My comment on the CBC article is on the first page right now - GO AGREE WITH IT!! (I'm lc_toronto).

I'm SO glad no one was injured. I hope they've put the fire out by now...
