So I was talking to the lovely walover165, and we decided there needs to be more Viktor Petrenko love!

You might know him as Johnny Weir's assistant coach, but he's so much more than that.

Without further dithering, here's a muchly needed Viktor Petrenko appreciation post!
Has this been done before? OH WELL, LET'S DO IT AGAIN.

First let's look at his skating career!
He won gold at the 1992 Olympics- something that is still being argued about to this day. ...but this post isn't for arguing, it's for ~loving~!
Sorry about the watermarks bbs!

I definitely recommend finding more of him on youtube and etc, I just didn't want to bog down this post with videos.

Oh, did I mention that he consistently had gorgeous costumes for competition and hilarious ones for exhibitions? These photos are pretty much all Olypics related because ngl, there isn't a plethora of Viktor pics online and if there are I'm failing at finding them. OH WELL, these are pretty regardless. :D

He's also amazing outside of the rink, too!

"Petrenko befriended the hard-knocks Olympian Oksana Baiul and convinced Zmievskaya to take the young figure skater into her home when the loss of family became an overwhelming burden for the girl." (source)

Yeah, you read that right. Say it with me now: Awww. He's not only a gqmf, he's also a good person. *swoon*

"His ongoing humanitarian efforts and personal kindness are as much a part of his life as his skating accomplishments. Early in his career, as an amateur skater in Moscow in April of 1986, he became overwhelmed with concern upon hearing of the explosion and meltdown at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In the 1990s, after making a name for himself as a skater, he became closely affiliated with a New Jersey-based relief fund, called Children of Chernobyl. He used his celebrity to raise funds for the organization, and made follow-up contacts to insure that the funds were being used effectively." (same sauce as the quote above)

From wikipedia, on the same subject: In March 2001, Petrenko organized the Viktory for Kids ice show in Simsbury, Connecticut and invited his celebrity friends from the international figure skating community to perform in order to raise public awareness and funds for the thousands of children still being affected by elevated radiation levels from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster that had occurred in his homeland of Ukrainian SSR fifteen years earlier.

He's also one of the best parts of BGJW

Sadly, I could only find like one clip with him and it's not anything very exciting.
but here it is anyway (he's at the end):

Also, Sundance channel has a little bio for Viktor and they were nice enough to include a picture:

I have more pictures of him on my laptop, but sadly I'm not at it rn, so if you have pictures feel free to post them in the comments and I'll add them in! :D
