Insane In The Brain: Adrian Schultheiss

Jun 06, 2010 12:59

I don't know whether this has been done before, but ...
My first post ever (jag är nervös/nerveux!!) dedicated to this up-and-coming Swedish GQ BAMF...

~ADRIAN SCHULTHEISS~

ADRIAN SCHULTHEISS was born on 11 August 1988 in Kungsbacka, Sweden. He started skating at the age of 3. He is the 2006 Swedish National Champion, 2006 Nordic Champion, and 2004-2005 Swedish Junior National Champion. He is the first Swedish skater to win a Junior Grand Prix event (Junior Grand Prix Croatia, 2005). Incidentally, he also participated in a JGP in my hometown (Junior Grand Prix USA/Skate Long Beach, 2004). He belongs to the skating club Göteborg TK.

PROGRAMS
There isn't a dearth of media/info/videos, etc. of his older programs, but I tried to be as comprehensive as I could...

2005-2006
SP: Toccata and Fugue Techno Mix
LP: Jean-Michael Jarre

This was a big year for Adrian. He competed in Swedish Nationals for the first time at senior level (and got 1st!), won the Junior Grand Prix of Croatia, and won the Nordic Championship (held in København, my second home <3) over fellow Swedes Filip Stiller and Kristoffer Berntsson. According to AbsoluteSkating, for his LP he was "dressed in a blue costume that would put Johnny Weir to shame". I don't know about him outdoing Princess J, but I like the comparison still :)

SP/LP Costume

I suppose this costume kind of reminded me of

Video of 05-05 SP from Swedish Nationals

2006-2007
SP: Moonlight Sonata Techno Mix
LP: Jean-Michael Jarre

Adrian suffered an injury during summer practice which affected most of his season. He won silver at Swedish Nationals while Kristoffer Berntsson regained the gold.

Some info from interviews, personal website, etc (mostly from AbsoluteSkating and ScandinavianSkating)

Hobbies: Chillin', training, having fun in life, reptiles (?!), computers, movies
Favorite food: Pizza and fondue
Favorite drink: Cola, Red Bull
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite movies: Saw, Pineapple Express, Step Brothers
Favorite place: Wherever the sun is shining (LOL)
Favorite jump: flip, axel
Favorite sport: K1, mixed martial arts

You have a rather unusual hobby…You mean my reptiles? Yeah, I have a snake; it’s a boa constrictor and I have two lizards. They live in a terrarium at my parents’. When I was a kid our neighbor had reptiles and I thought it was so cool. He even had piranhas, and I had some too for a while. They are pretty easy to keep, you just feed them. The lizards are great because they move around a lot, but they don’t show any emotions. My family has two dogs now and I like them better.

What are your views about the skaters who do not strive for uniqueness, innovation and creativity?
I think it’s more interesting and important when people try to make some difference from all points of view.

You have a different style in your programs and costumes from many skaters. Is this something you have set out to achieve or is it your natural, creative style? I am? :) No I don’t try to make it “extra”, it’s just natural creativity, following my own thinking. Costumes, hairstyles - I have people to help me with those, but I have a say in it as well, so I get what I need.

Do you like chocolates, ice-cream and other sweet things? Yes, candy and chocolate I like but not so much ice-cream, only when it’s warm outside =)

What do you do to relax away from skating? I’m kind of relaxed when I’m not having nightmares, but having nightmares doesn’t happen very often now - I haven’t watched any good thrillers recently. I don’t do anything special - just living life.

You started skating at age three, how did that happen?
I have no idea! I think my mom just brought me to the rink to have fun. It was a public skating session and we could try hockey and bandy. But I liked figure skating and someone noticed I had talent for it so I continued. But I did all kinds of other sports as well. I played soccer, hockey, handball and I even wrestled. Then I injured my foot during a soccer game and that’s when I decided to just concentrate on skating. But I’m still triying a few other things, like Kung Fu. It strengthens my muscles and helps me gain speed; and speed is of the essence in skating.

Who are your favorite skaters? My favorite skater when i was young was Alexander Abt but now i don’t have any favorite skater any more.

How many body piercings do you have and where? At the moment I just have my ears and lip. I had 4 more, but maybe later on I’ll have a new one and maybe some tattoos because I like those as well.

What is your most valuable possession? My health and my family are most important for me.

What can you tell us about your free program and the costume? [2005-2006]
The costume should have an aura of mysticism and the supernatural to catch the viewers. So many men skate in black and white, I want to be different! Galina Loutkova makes my costumes and she’ll make a drawing of her idea and then I say yes or no to it. With this one we started with the blue bodysuit and then added a few things and then some more. People either hate this costume or they like it. Personally I love her work, I want to stick out and be seen; it’s part of the sport.

What do you think about Kristoffer Berntsson? Do you think it's possible to beat him next year at Nationals?
I don’t know him so good only from competitions and camps. Yes I think it’s possible to beat him.

How would you spend 3 million kronor? I would probably save most of it - maybe buy a house/apartment like an investment. Also I would use it for living, family, skating etc.

What's the naughtiest thing you have ever done? I don’t feel comfortable to in telling the truth here about naughty things, because that would be naughty to do.

Sun or snow? sun
Tennis or football? football
Spiders or snakes? snakes
Apples or oranges? apples
Blonde or brunette? both [that’s cheating, Adrian!]
Film or book? film
Mohican (hair style) or piercing? mohican AND piercings
Tea or coffee? coffee
Wine or beer? wine
Salad or burger? burger
Olympic bronze or World gold medal? yes please, I want them, send to this address... but seriously, gold is always golden
Yagudin or Plushenko? Plushenko
Break-dancing or skateboarding? Break-dancing
Money or love? love - and then the money comes hopefully J I have to change that, because it sounds strange. I don’t have anything against both!
Federer or Nadal? Federer or Nadal ? What is that?

What will you be doing ten years from now?
My future is so open; I mean I live in a dream where anything is possible. I’m aiming for the stars; I want to do something I can make a good living off. An Olympic medal would be good…
