idk, it was so long time ago and i was never looking for any info about this, but i found this on wikipedia (great source, ik)

Citing a lack of support from his coach, Joubert fired Depouilly and returned to Guyon for a brief period of time. Seems kind of strange to come back back to the first coach. I mean, 5 years passed an Brian was supposed to change. Didn't he changed or what?

I've never closely followed Brian but isn't he big boy enough to speak for himself? What's the story behind his Mom doing the talking for him?

Brian's mom is one of the biggest stage parents in the sport, and has been for his whole career. He's kind of stunted regarding psychological/adolescent development, and his mom seems to take advantage of that - he's still afraid to be out on his own/leave home, and instead of forcing him to grow up, his mom coddles him and seems to make a lot of his decisions for him. It's detrimentally affected his career (see: refusing to leave France to train, and not even wanting to leave his hometown) and I wouldn't be surprised if the problems go deeper than just his career.
