“The entire men’s competition - aside from Yuzuru’s short program and Denis Ten’s free skate - was void of any passion,” said two-time Olympian Johnny Weir
Void of any passion? Really? With Abbott who got up after 10 hellish seconds, nailed everything after that and recovered quite spectacularly in the FP? Seems exaggerated.
There were many, many mistakes, and the winning performance wasn't a clean one, but still.
Hahaha seriously. I don't mind armchair speculation but people are being way too negative. Misha Ge was fun to watch, Jeremy brought drama/emotion to both his programs, Yuzuru slayed in the short and then despite failing in the beginning of his free pulled his shit together really well for the second half, Joubert turned back time a bit in his short, etc.
And Johnny's harshness on Jason was unnecessary, the US media were overrating him to begin with and now that he didn't get bronze people are taking the piss.
I was wondering if maybe they mixed the ice with water and vodka. That is some cursed ice right there, especially after remembering pairs too. I do think it's true that the pressure of the Olympics got to everyone though. I think Yuzu was thrown a little by how long it took for them to calculate Dai's score and I think Pchan got into his own head once he knew that he could win gold. Yuzu pulled it together though while it's true that you could tell in Pchan's language that he wanted a redo
Yuzuru's skate definitely mindfucked Pchan big-time. I think he wanted a skate that he could ~conquer Yuzuru with instead of realizing that he just had to be solid and not fuck up.
“Honestly - woulda, coulda, shoulda,” Weir said. “If I would have known the event would have ended up this way I would have stuck to my guns and tried [to compete].”
I think all the medal ceremonies are held together from 8:15 pm Sochi time, but I haven't managed to actually watch any other than those involving Germany when they switch to them for a few minutes.
