Finnstep

While we're waiting for 4CC and Worlds to begin, I thought it would be fun to look down the road to next year's Olympics.  Over on the Golden Skate forums, they've been discussing the compulsory pattern for the short dance, which will be the Finnstep.  It's a variant on the Quickstep and is based on a program originated by the wonderful team of ( Read more... )

This is a fabulous post, ty for making it :)

You're welcome! It's terrible; I'm already chomping at the bit for next year. Can't it just be the Olympics already? (Of course if I had my way, it'd be the Olympics all the time). : )

I'm worried because next year will be the first time that I've been really invested in particular people doing well at the Olympics, and I fear it's going to be epically stressful instead of enjoyable haha. I'd like to know all the scores before the Olympics even happen, so I can watch in peace.

Oh, boy. Try to breathe deeply and take a zen approach that everything will be okay. I can't tell you the number of times I've had my heart broken by this sport. But the world spins on, and new favorites will come along to steal your heart, some of whom might actually grab the gold medal at a major competition! I've just had to learn to roll with it. Time will eventually take the bitter taste of any disappointment out of your mouth. I've even gotten over Debi Thomas in 1988 and Johnny Weir in 2006, and I didn't have to go through therapy. ; ) It just takes time, and a sense of humor.

BTW, try to enjoy all the skating--the performances as well as the rankings. Sometimes the judging is just going to be unfair or random. Do whatever helps you, and that includes looking up the placements before you watch the competition. I find it really helps my sanity to know what's going to happen, unless the event is being broadcast live, in which case you just have to suffer. : /
