...WAT. HOW DOES HE HAVE AN OLDER BROTHER. SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!!!

THOUGH IF HE'S FROM QIQIHAR MAYBE HE'S A MINORITY AND THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE.

ANYWAY I LIKE HIM.

Maybe both of his parents were only children? Or maybe it wasn't so strict for them at that point; it depends a lot of where and when you are, or so I understand.

(Speaking of minorities, d'you know both Zhao Hongbo and Tong Jian are supposedly/technically Manchu? Kinda interesting.)
/totally irrelevant

I'm actually wondering if it's a half-brother right now. Song Nan is 21, it's really rare for Han people of that age to have a sibling unless it's a twin or an older sister but he's not from the country either so IDK.

China's only relaxed the one-child policy recently, and not every person who's parents are only children can have more than one, I think you still need to pay $$$. Adoption is heavily encouraged now but I imagine it would be harder for an adopted child to become an elite athlete just based on the ridiculous sports system. I'm getting off-track

I didn't know Zhao and Tong are technically Manchu! Are they part or full, do you know?

TBH I don't know that would make a difference. And with the one child policy, I haven't lived in China for years, but what I understand is that it depends a lot on which part of the country you're from and what time period you're born, actually.

As for Zhao and Tong, I kind of doubt there're many "full" Manchus left these days, whatever that even means...Actually I just saw it mentioned in Chinese articles at some point, it's a mildly interesting fact, although mostly likely not all that meaningful. (And it's true that almost all Chinese skaters (or winter athletes in general) are from the Northeast, or what used to be called "Manchuria", I think.)

I'm so glad for him that he got better this season, what a nightmare was last one.

BEST JUNIORS WORLD PODIUM :´´)

I give you a medal ceremony that it was Junior grand prix in belarus. Lol Gachi in this one gold and Nan silver (but then Nan won the gold and gachi the silver in the other gp event. Too bad that gachi was a mess in JGPF and didn't make the podium)
