I hope that they don't cancel the championships completely. I really think that they should just postpone them and hold them somewhere else.

If they can't continue with it as planned, I wish they'd postpone or move it. Cancelling it would be devastating to the athletes involved, particularly ones who are likely to retire/age out of being contenders next year. With that said, whatever they do the Japanese skaters seem likely to be at a disadvantage because of the stress of the situation and state of their country. I keep thinking of the scenes in BGJW where Johnny was making himself sick with anxiety of the compettions and then imagining having everything that's been going on with the tsunami/earthquakes/nuclear events in addition to deal with, and I can't even imagine how they're staying sane, tbh.

I hope it's post-poned and moved. I think the last thing Japan needs to worry about right now is a sporting event. Even though it might be good for morale, there's radioactivity around certain areas now too, right? Safety first!

There's a blog post/opinion piece by Philip Hersh that's got some quotes from Ottavio Cinquanta that can be found here. I think Hersh is being a bit dramatic/overblown but there's some bits of info there too.

I think it went without saying that the earthquake was reason enough to move Worlds.

Besides, I'm just getting what CBC is telling me. It said there were leaks? Maybe they were misinformed. Though I was under the impression that radiation in any amount isn't good for anyone anyway. Like cellphones causing brain activity changes and whatnot?

I still think they should postpone it and move it.

You would think the ISU would have a Plan B...

Technically I think the ISU rules state that if the competition has to be moved it automatically goes to the place that held it last year, so Torino. But I have no idea whether Torino would be able to put anything on at such sort notice.

At this point I think it should just be canceled.

I can't see it being moved because I think they would at the very least need a month to reorganize it and for all the skaters to change travel plans and training schedules. If it's not postponed properly than it really won't matter to skaters who "need" Worlds or whose last chance is this Worlds because they probably won't do well under those kind of conditions. Of course a month from now will be getting into tour season and while they aren't important to competition they are financially important. Many skaters need that funding and I don't even no how difficult it would be to get out of those contracts. It's a lot of money on the line.

Maybe I'm being a pessimists and it isn't as complicated as I think it is.

I think the tours can be mived, I think the audience would understand.

I'm not questioning the audience I'm questioning the people financially invested in making tours happen. Us fans just see it as a fun event, but it is a business and there are contracts. Money is put down long before it's made.
