this is very cool.
This sentence freaks me out a bit though: "Psychedelics probably work in addiction by making the brain function more chaotically for a period - a bit like shaking up a snow globe - weakening reinforced brain connections and dynamics" So.. what other connections would it weaken??

I know there's some trials looking at LSD and PTSD in works which are basically looking at the ability to disrupt those memories and allow people to forget trauma.

The trick being breaking accidental bonds that cause problems and not breaking useful linkages like how to do specific tasks or what you great uncle's wife's name is.

Yeah, there's definitely potential for some bad but stronger connections, i.e., associations we use more frequently will, presumably, be less affected by this LSD-mediated chaos. Since there is a biological basis for addiction, I wonder how strong those connections are relative to good ones we don't want to disrupt.
