A duo of planetary astronomers has grabbed media attention by claiming a planet four times the size of Jupiter may be lurking in the outer solar system. They call the planet Tyche.

Oooh, maybe they'll find a Mass Relay out there?

On a more serious note, I think it's unlikely that Tyche exists as well. It would be fascinating, most certainly, but it seems too unlikely.

It's a bit funny to me that we can know incredibly specific things about incredibly distant stars, but can't figure out if there's another massive planet within our own solar system. I realize that the actual detection and measurement methods are different, but it's so counterintuitive.

Hey there, university at which my father is a professor and several family members study even though I live in an entirely different state! Fancy seeing you in an astronomy article, I thought engineering was your big thing.

*cough* On topic, I'm so fascinated by how a tiny, possibly non-statistically-significant glitch in the numbers could possibly indicate the existence of an entire planet so nearby.

I heard about this years ago. It was commented that physicists said it had to exist based on calculations that were able to explain the wobbles in the orbits of the gas giants. According to them, there had to be a big planetary body out there that caused this and that Pluto was too small. It will be interesting times indeed.
