The Saddledome is fucked. Downtown Calgary and much of southern Alberta has been hit hard by intense rainfall resulting in massive flooding. You can donate to the Red Cross here.

Lindy Ruff is the Dallas Stars' new head coach. He refused to have meetings in the crease. Good man.

John Tortorella to be the Vancouver Canucks' new head coach.

The news in Calgary right now is breaking my heart. The Saddledome is my favourite building in the entire world - reading about the lost memorabilia from 1989, not to mention the destroyed dressing rooms and Jumbotron equipment... guess we're definitely getting a new arena after all.

I know new arena plans were supposed to be announced soon (for real this time! - which makes sense with the apparent impending announcement that Ken King will no longer be president of hockey ops) but gotta think this is gonna speed the process up (and we might end up getting a little extra government money for it now). Right now I'm just wondering if they'll even have it ready for Stampede, let alone get everything fixed for next season.

The lost memorabilia is breaking my heart, especially since Brad McCrimmon and all...

Are you in Calgary right now? Safe? (ftr I'm in the SW and not in any danger of being in an evac zone. That's part of what's so messed up about this for me; without media I'd never even know there was a problem in my city, it's so calm here.)

I'm in the NW, and in a similar situation to you - I live on top of a hill and am about as safe as you can be, and from where I'm standing, it looks like any other rainstorm. So I feel the same - like these pictures I'm seeing cannot possibly be what is actually happening to my city.

I read somewhere that they ARE going to accept CT money for special promotional events.

Hugs to everyone in Alberta. <3 And Flames fans too.

Oh man that flooding just looks awful! Sending positive thoughts to all affected.

Knighter! <3 <3 <3

I figured something was up when he didn't sign with FL after being eliminated by Yale in the tourney, especially when FL had signed Bjugstad the week before or whatever. So when I saw the news about his rights being traded or him going the free agency route, I wasn't surprised. I'm really happy he signed in Calgary. It looks like a good fit for him, and if he ever cracks the lineup I am going to bandwagon Calgary so hard. :)

You're in luck! I'd be shocked if he didn't make the team out of camp as the second or third (probably third) line centre. Probably why he chose us haha.

Based on the interviews he's given so far I'm sure that's exactly why he chose Calgary. Rumors had him linked to Calgary and Edmonton before FL traded his rights and when it wasn't a conditional pick it seemed pretty apparent he'd be signing there. I know nothing about the depth on the Calgary roster so that's pretty cool to hear. I'm with you though, he's probably more of a 3rd line center.

It was fun to watch him grow as a player in college and watching him and Kristo play together was pretty awesome. I'm glad for him, he just seems like an overall good dude.

Stajan and Backlund. Maybe Horak.

That's a complete list of centres we have that could possibly play a top 9 centre role next season. We don't have enough centres to even begin talking about depth.

I'm excited for him! I've read that he has some offensive potential so there's always a chance he could surprise and top out as a #2 guy, but he's also big and a faceoff winning machine, which is outstanding and something we needed really badly.

It's not news or anything, but I was cruising my twitter feed and got linked to a totally entertaining list of the NHL's Top 10 Heavy Metal fans.
