"Trampire:" Why the Public Slut Shaming of Kristen Stewart Matters for Young Women

Sep 07, 2012 00:40

For the most part, I don't really care about the Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart breakup, because I don't know them, I don't like the Twilight movies and after suffering through David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, I'm very upset with Robert Pattinson. I don't care if Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders did it in a car, in a bar, in a house or with a ( Read more... )

I am no fan of Kristen Stewart (or of cheating, for that matter), but calling her a slut and a whore is unacceptable, full stop. And I agree completely with the article that it's really fucked up that Chris Brown got a pass on beating Rhianna (cuz he's a ~good musician, you guys!) while Kirsten AND HER CHARACTER got pitched from a movie. :/ EW.

I agree about the slut name calling, but her character got pitched because she cheated with the director of the movie... Their cheating scandal kind of overshadowed any other publicity for the movie. I don't think it's a way of punishing her for being a "slut." I can't imagine her working well on a sequel and I doubt she would want to do it at all.

But the director's still on the picture, which I personally find exceedingly skeevy.

This has just been an eye-opening year for me as a woman and not in a positive way. :(

God, the fights I have gotten into on the mothership about this shit. I just don't read the posts now. There's one person in particular who is a total anti-stan tinhatter that I just cannot take. I actually really don't like Kristen as a person, but I can't deal with the way people are talking about her right now.

ikr? I'm not a big fan of hers by any means but people are being RIDICULOUS. I feel kinda bad for her--she definitely made a stupid, selfish decision, but she doesn't deserve such backlash and hatred.

Awesome article. Depressing... but awesome.

I was never a fan of Kristen Stewart, but my empathy for her in these past couple months has grown exponentially.

One female fan even filmed a reaction video on YouTube to publicize her devastation, a segment similar in tone to Chris Crocker's now infamous "Leave Britney Alone!" video.

If they're talking about nuttymadam, her issues go way beyond the KStew/RPatz breakup.

This. It takes two to tango. I doubt he was innocent in this.

Shouldn't Kristen too? I'd say it has to be a 50/50 responsibility.

How has she not? She released a public apology for her private life, and has been taking the lion's share of the scorn. I mean, what else would you like to see?
