Fingers crossed =). I suppose it's a complex theme. I've only ever been worried about what a quota system means for public primary and secondary education. I hope the government doesn't act as if this is an easy way out of our educational crisis since the success of a school here is mostly (however informally) measured by the number of students they can get into federal universities. Public schools are in seriously sad shape =(.
The uni I attend already uses a bonus system (you take the admission exams and your grade is multiplied by a coefficient that depends on your background) and apparently around 45% of the freshmen are coming from public schools already, so I don't know how much is gonna change from now on. Well, at least not globally, I know it's gonna be a big change for our Engineering and Med faculties.
Funding a bit... qualifying teachers, finding better pedagogical methods, spreading opportunities across the entire country etc.
And it depends on the matter. The honeymoon is obviously over, some days I think she's awesome, some days I wanna strangle her and the rest of the time I'm kinda like "oh well, she's a politician". But that's to be expected. I'm still really glad she was elected over Serra and I see her as a serious, hard worker, good president.
Attempting to fight the social societal power structures of oppression by giving the oppressed an opportunity to succeed where it is unlikely that they will: Reverse Racism. If people HATE quotas SOOO fucking much, how about they offer a solution to the problem instead of just critiquing the one we've come up with?
This just reminds me of being accused of being a "sexist moron" by this wannabe feminist ex-friend of mine who hates me because I was excited by my boyfriend saying he "hates men," is "ashamed of his gender" and a "proud feminist." According to her, if I "hate men," I can't be a feminist.
I'm so tired of having to explain institutional racism, sexism, etc. to people who don't want to understand. I'm so tired of people who benefit from privilege looking down on those who are upset at their oppressors. I'm just so fucking sick of humanity it general right now.
I need to go look at pictures of Joe Biden with babies.
I don't even know what she thinks. She's a fucking idiot who has had a picture of Adele photoshopped to be holding a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken instead of her grammys as her facebook banner. She's one of those women who says things like ~I can't be friends with girls, they're such bitches, omfg, boys are better. And she treats gay people like accessories. She told one of my ex gf's that she was like ~the hottest lesbian Ever and if she wishes she were gay so they could make out. /rant I'm just angry because I'm watching Paul Ryan, lol.
When will certain people understand that affirmative action isn't discriminating against ~precious white privilege~? This isn't a "if you're not with us, you're against us" situation, dammit. Helping someone does not mean you're punching everyone else in the face!
It's not discriminating against white people, but it does directly affect white people when there are limited spots. Entrance into some programs is extremely competitive, and white people are obviously going to dislike racial quotas and see them as unfair, because it reduces the number of spots available to them.

The Brazilian Senate has approved a bill that reserves half the places in the country's prestigious federal universities to state school students.
African-Brazilian Senator Paulo Paim said most Brazilians would benefit as only 10% of students graduated from private schools.
Oh my god that is a huge gap DD:
