The Republican National Committee had altered the convention rules to bind delegates in future elections to vote for the candidate who wins their state's primary or caucus.

I remember the brouhaha over Reagan vs Ford for the Republican nomination and the Kansas delegate stating he was casting all his states votes for Ford yet everybody we knew didn't know a single person who had voted for Ford in the primary. I seem to also recall that he stated he was doing it because he knew what his state really wanted (I wasn't that old and was watching it on TV - I just remember thinking WOW he can't do that - we [ok my mother anyway HA] voted REAGAN - doesn't our vote count?)

Apparently when it works you use it and when it doesn't you change it? Good going RNC.

That has been the Republican MO for years, though. Just like their agreement that if the filibuster rule wouldn't change at the beginning of this congressional session, that they PROMISED (REALLY!) to not abuse it. Harry Reid should have been swatted for that.

The way it works is that each state has a determined # of delegates, and the primary elections determine how many of those delegates each candidate gets.

So if a state has 10 delegates, and each candidate gets 50% of the vote they would have 5 delegates each to take to the convention, those with the most delegates wins the nomination.

Well Romney won the most so he's got a nomination but he didn't win all the delegates, it looks like the RNC is refusing to seat or formally acknowledge the delegates for Paul, and while they have a snowball chance in hades to WIN...they would like to be acknowledged. RNC is trying to make it a Romney show and refusing to allow support for any other candidate, even if that candidate actally WON delegates.

I read an article yesterday that said that the Texas delegation was pissed enough over the proposed rule change that they were all but ready to walk out before the convention started.
That was 150 delegates that wouldn't have voted. The Romney ticket only had a majority of 157, so that would have brought them perilously close to losing the nomination to someone else....
Apparently it didn't happen; it would have been great entertainment if they did!
