I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Neil Armstrong today. Neil and I trained together as technical partners but were also good friends who will always be connected through our participation in the mission of Apollo 11.

:(

The aeronautical/astrological engineering building at Purdue is named after him, when it was dedicated he came to the football game that weekend that I was at. Makes it more personal to me somehow, I don't know why.

One of the guys I went there with is still in the area. He posted a picture of the Armstrong statue outside of the building on Facebook. People have left flowers, candles, and a folded American flag. ;___;

I was at that homecoming too, I think - where he spoke in front of the building with Gene Cernan?

ETA: Here's a photo (taken last night, according to Purdue) of the statue in front of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering:

Might be--I didn't go to the building dedication. I was just at the football game, and he came out and started the silly "Shout" thing.

That's a lot what my friend's pic looked like, except his was taken during the day from another angle, so "Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering" was in the background. :(

ETA: This is essentially the pic my friend posted.

My earliest memory is sitting in front of a tiny black and white TV, three years old, watching the big flamey rocket that my parents told me was taking people to the moon. I never forgot it.

RIP Mr. Armstrong.

See you, Space Cowboy.

RIP, Neil Armstrong.

Edited because of html-fail. And again because I forgot a word.
