So, last night, I was watching NBC's coverage, and they were showing all the male divers in speedos so small you could actually see asscracks, then they cut to the undefeated US womens' beach volleyball duo and started asking if volleyball uniforms are too skimpy and trashy. (ESPECIALLY as the women were wearing long pants and long sleeves in that night's game.)

Let's not forget what happens when you get an...interestingly-placed score bar:

There's also the US swimming coach who's had a total shitfit about the incredible sixteen year old Chinese swimmer. You could just substitute all his statements on it with "WAHHHHHH! WAHHHHHH! A GIRL beat my best MAN!"

Ye Shiwen took gold in the 400m medley and in her last leg where she swam freestyle she beat Ryan Lochte's personal best. The US swimming coach started saying to the press that she must be doping (including suggesting that she has somehow been genetically engineered by the Chinese Olympic Committee) and that 'women don't beat the best men'. Bitter misogynist tears, essentially!

Oh wait, he's not just a US swimming coach, he's one of the most senior swimming coaches in the world, and still thought it appropriate to give this whining totally unsporting interview.

There's a fair amount of women's sports on during the daytime. But yeah, the prime time slots are totally dominated by the men's sports and beach volleyball. (not that I mind oogling guys in speedos)

I wish they showed more of the white water kayaking. My father and I were sitting around watching that yesterday afternoon while he was waiting for women's basketball to come on. I caught the men's kayaking on late night.

admittedly its a bit like NASCAR in you're waiting for someone to tip over, but people do the same thing watching the winter olympics and stuff like bobsled or skiing.

What they really need to do with the bobsledding/luge/skeleton is put a camera on the sled and air that instead of these dumb panoramic shots of people going down the track.

ETA: Oh yeah, to be somewhat more on topic, they've shown more white water kayakking than I thought they would. Idk, at times it still seems boring, but it's amazing how they're able to maneuver in the water with all the rapids and still manage to get through the gates unscathed.

Yesterday kayaking was on the 3D broadcast. I'm now a little disappointed I don't own a 3D TV :\

I can't imagine 3D adding much to it unless you have someone standing behind the tv squirting you with a water pistol.

Eh... I was talking to a coworker about the way the Olympics are covered and he had a really good point... in order to draw in an audience, they have to televise the most popular sports. So in summer, that's diving, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. I feel like I've seen pretty equal coverage of men's and women's events so far.

I'm just glad they changed the uniform rules for beach volleyball this year and aren't making the women wear bikinis anymore.
