Woman Says Southwest Told Her She Couldn’t Board Flight To N.Y. Due To Her Cleavage

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork.com) - You are now free to move about the country.

Unless you show too much cleavage?

So says a woman named Avital.

Avital was boarding a 6 a.m. Southwest Airlines flight on June 5 from Las Vegas to New York, wearing a cotton black dress, flannel shirt and scarf.

Avital claims she was politely chatting with an airline ( Read more... )

This is unfortunately not uncommon. I was told I had to cover up or I couldn't sell plasma once when I was wearing a plunging neckline. Because how are they supposed to stick a needle in my arm with my tits right there? I was humiliated; I left, and they lost a twice a week donor, and I had to figure out some other way to afford groceries. I feel awful for this woman having to go through this at an airline gate; thinking about my experience in front of a half dozen people in a waiting room still upsets me and that was a few years ago.

An across the board dress code doesn't even cover these things, because the tops people are ~scandalized~ by on some women are perfectly fine on women with smaller cup sizes. It's all bullshit.

Yeah, this exactly. I wear tops that easily show that much cleavage, but I'm somewhere between a B and C cup (it depends on the bra). Nobody's ever said anything. If I were several cup sizes larger, though, it would surely be an issue (probably along with the fact that I don't wear bras because the strap sits on a fibro tender point and scoliosis bump).

WTF??

I've never known a nurse of any gender who was worried about what their patient was or was not wearing! I guess phlebotomists maybe don't see people in their altogether like nurses do, but still!

I know some airlines have a vague policy but there's the issue, its VAGUE.

and adding in the restrictive issues of dealing with TSA: shoes, pants zippers, bra underwires, belts, buckles have ALL caused me to get detained and "enhancegroped for safeteez", well, what the hell is someone to wear?

Arbitrary and subjective clothing determinations by airlines are ridic. Post your dress code and pictures representing acceptable garments. don't pull fast ones on passengers.

( not that I've ever flown southwest, but sure as hell wouldn't now.)

I've never been to a nice hotel that would kick people out for what they were wearing. Do they do that? o_o
