Is this a private company? If you're sending in your resume for a company that is CLEARLY overly religious, you should probably expect them to ask you a bunch of "Is Jesus your lord and saviour?" questions.

Though WTF at the interviewer getting ANGRY with him for saying he cannot attend church on Sundays.

I know Chik-fil-A is a Christian company and they won't hire you if you're gay, my cousin is a manager at one and she's a Jesus-freak (one of those who lists her relationship status being married to JESUS), though I haven't heard of anyone not being hired for not being religious.

yeah I agree. Nobody should be discriminated for their religious beliefs, but if the company is super religious it's obvious someone who isn't isn't going to have the job, even if it is the most qualified person ever

Yeah, I try to avoid companies like that, especially since I'm atheist. Not because I'm afraid I'll be fired for my beliefs, but because I'm not sure I could handle all the bible-thumping co-workers or religious propaganda bullshit all around the office.

I'm glad they are getting sued. I would too if I was asked to go to a Bible-study unpaid for some light bulb company. Can you imagine Inn-N-Out demanding you went to their Bible-study so you can be Christian enough to make fries?

LOL, I remember growing up and my mom decided we were going to be Mormon like my dad was. I was baptised and everything and our missionaries said they'd come to collect me at 5am for 5.30am bible study and then they'd take me on to school. I was 10 and like "Ummmm...no. Pokemon comes on at 6.45 and I sleep till then."

If it is known that most employees of the small private busyness are members or some sect, is it worth to work for such a company?

A lot of people are not in a position to turn down a job/paycheck.

Thus, the religious beliefs should be considered to be the very private thing in the society. And therefore companies should exclude all religious elements from relations with their employees, otherwise conflicts are inevitable, IMHO.

It doesn't matter if this is a private company. Private companies are still beholden to the law, and this was a blatant violation.

And as for "well what did he expect?", well, it's not like jobs are growing on trees these days. A lot of people are working for companies they don't care for because it means a steady paycheck, sustenance, etc.

And the thing is, why are people saying that we should expect employers to do illegal things? No, we should not, and when they do, we should sue them.
