But why go to the effort of photoshopping her out? I could almost see it in a grossly stereotyping way if they added her in. But out? Do thjey think the presence of his mother will put-off non-jewish voters?

Does anyone sit and think "I don't want to vote for him - he went on a family day our with his mother!"

I assume they were aiming for the image of the "perfect WASP-y 1950s nuclear family," which doesn't include grandparents or other relatives, and that they felt that including "extraneous" family members would disrupt that image.

This is hilarious and so weird. Probably especially to me because my Jewish family (my dad's side) is super dysfunctional and a day at the park would probably end in murder, or at least my dad and his mother refusing to talk to each other for years.

As someone who comes from an Italian background, I really think my family would be more impressed with the one with the grandmother in it. I mean, my great grandparents lived with my grandparents and their kids for 25 years.

I told my dad about this (see upthread for how this would work in my Jewish family) and he said that he figured this idea would appeal to people of Italian background more than Jewish.
