Owen Jones: Hatred of those on benefits is dangerously out of control

Taking away support can only be achieved by demonising recipients as scroungers in mansions

What does it say about modern Britain when the pre-meditated massacre of six children is described as "an accident waiting to happen" on national television? In the early hours of last Friday, someone poured petrol through the letterbox of the Philpott ( Read more... )

Six children. Six children burned to death. Six children burned to death and Carole Malone believes they deserved it because they were on welfare.

I can't even compose an articulate response to this.

What are the police doing to find the murderer? That's far more important than this stupid political campaign to re-do their benefits.
Sure, a lot of people are on benefits. Some need it. And this woman obviously makes up her facts or stretches out the truth into lies.
This family not only has six children to burry but have to deal with this woman blaming them for the murders. How horrible.
My sympathy goes to this family.

What the fuck is it with the UK press that it goes straight to victim-blaming? Who immediately jumps to the conclusion that the horrible death of six children is anything other than the fault of the person who started the fire?

How incredibly revolting. Those poor, poor children. As horrifying as it sounds, i hope like hell the smoke got to them first.

Fuck these people and their hate and their insensitivity. My sis in law has fibromyalgia, she's on assistance, her life is not a fucking cake walk. Her disability went up 25 dollars in January of this year - made her total for the month (for four people) 601.00 dollars. So, since she broke the 600 dollar limit - they cut her food stamps by 75 dollars.

Yeah, that's compassion. Jayzus christ.

Six children died because some asscactus set fire to this family's home. Period. The end.

I hope karma bites Carole Malone squarely on the ass.

As for Rod Liddle - too bad Fibro isn't something you can catch. If it were, I'd make it my mission to corner him in some tightly enclosed space and cough all over him. *Fibromite is sick of this "your illness is FAKE!" bullshit*
