When you’re privileged enough to attend a top-tier American university such as Duke, losing sight of the fact that your fate may have been different often comes with the package. Strutting to class in a pair of pricey high heels to hear well-paid professors talk and relaxing afterwards with a glass of pinot grigio at night, many girls at Duke and ( Read more... )

This is a perfect follow-up story to this one. I wish someone would send these to Traveler's Digest--and that they would care.

Goodness. :/ I squirmed so hard at some parts, like the girl who was anally raped several times while unconscious, after refusing to submit. And that older female scout part scared me a bit, too.

The grandmother who said not to go out alone unless you want to be sold was perfectly protective, but it's really something else to imagine that her fear isn't out of paranoia, but out of 100% rationale. Human trafficking sickens me beyond what I can type out.

What I hate is that the women are blamed for it, just like with rape in America. In America, girls are taught not to be raped. It seems like in the places mentioned in this article, the girls are taught not to be sold into slavery. AND NO ONE SEEMS TO THINK TO TELL MEN NOT TO RAPE WOMEN/SELL THEM INTO SLAVERY

I really wish I could post anonymously here. The Russian mob is heavy in the sex industry in my city and I've seen some very fucked up things.

From what I was reading every major criminal organization, except the Italian mafia (I'm not sure why, maybe they like trading drugs & weapons best?), are involved in sex trafficking or slave trade. Triads, russian mob, yakuza, etc

Seriously, something needs to be done. I don't know what it is, but this seems like a problem that is largely ignored.

The mafia retains the notion that they protect women through their work, so they haven't done anything regarding prostitution. There was a female mafiosa in Italy who did spread her operation into prostitution, but she was very much the exception.
