2) This article is depressingly true. In my short time waiting tables I encountered some really depressing conversations about this... trying to explain 'self-fulfilling prophecy' just didn't work. Some white waiters/waitresses are just sure that a black family isn't going to tip them, and the service drops from jump.

if you expect people to be poor tippers and treat them poorly, guess what - they aren't going to even tip you. that's your own fault. you don't get to blame an entire race because you can't do your job.

Yep, the only server I worked with who I can definitely say was racist was also the one who complained very vocally about black people tipping (her) poorly. YA THINK? She had arguments with me when I was hostessing about seating black people in her section within earshot of the customers.
