Town councillor Simon Parkes: My mum was a 9ft green alien

Parkes believes a 2.7m (9ft) lifeform stood next to his cot when he was a baby and ‘two green stick things’ appeared.

‘I thought “they’re not mummy’s hands, mummy’s are pink,’ ( Read more... )

I don't care what anyone believes, as long as they're not harming anyone.

Yeah I agree. I don't think my personal beliefs matter if I can do my job properly.

There was a controversy in the UK when Tony Blair started saying in an interview that his decision that it was right to go to war with Iraq was based on his communication with God through prayer.

If someone is taking personal religious visions as communications to them as to how to do their job, that can be worrying. Arguably there is a similar possibility here.

I... what...? I mean, I believe there is life on other planets (universe is too big to waste space like that) but I'm going to take a shot in the dark and assume that life doesn't come to earth to have babies. That'd REALLY be slumming it if you were somehow able to pull off long distance interstellar travel.

So...what?

He does have a point, though--if he said he saw Jesus or an angel as an infant, people would think it was wonderful. At least, they would in the U.S. I heard the U.K. is more secular, so maybe not?

His aliens visions have probably less impact on his politics, too :/

1) In the UK, it would be seen as a rather inappropriate thing to start announcing when in a politically elected role.

Let's face it, he could be looking into this as much as he liked privately, but if you are in a political position anything you release to the public is very important and generally very carefully controlled. And he's decided to release THIS to the public....

2) He doesn't just claim to have SEEN an alien. He claims to BE an alien. He also claims that when he was young aliens cured his chicken pox (amongst many other things).

If he just said that aliens are out there and he thinks they sometimes look out for us, I don't think I'd have minded. It's the level of specific batshit details that concerns me.

Of all the places, it had to be Whitby, the town where Dracula landed.

Um... okay then.

I mean, I don't care what he believes so long as it doesn't impact his work, but I'm betting anything we'll be hearing a resignation from him soon. Shame :(
