Ugh I'm going on a plane soon for the first time since I was 8 and I'm so nervous. If I were on this plane I would never ever want to fly again.

You have probably heard the "flying is safer than driving" over and over, so I will say something else: passengers on a plane will go hard in the paint against anyone acting up. Real talk. Since the TSA/terrorism hype passengers know they can take down a target and get complete amnesty. So even in situations like this, if her coworkers had not subdued her, you can bet a dogpile of commuters would've done it for them.

Yeah that definitely makes me feel better! I just have an irrational fear, but I know I'll be fine.

Oh my goodness. Poor every single person on that flight, including the bipolar attendant. Just awful.

Maybe I'm being overly sensitive but I have to say this post makes me very uncomfortable. If the woman is indeed suffering from a mental health crisis, then I think keeping the incident as private as possible would be the most humane course of action under the circumstances.

And adding a youtube clip so that we can witness her having said mental health crisis seems in very poor taste.

I'm sorry the post made you uncomfortable. That wasn't my intention.

I'm glad that they've kept her name under wraps in all the articles, because as far as that goes I agree that it should be private. When it comes to the fact that it happened, though, as someone who flies I'd like to know about it, and for me the clip was reassuring (is that odd?) as while she is very clearly in distress the situation was neutralized in as controlled a way as possible. Her breakdown invites a level of voyeurism but I still think it has worth outside of that. Does this clarify the choice to include it at all?

God. I so don't want to be an arse about this.

But if I'm being honest, it still does seem like voyeurism to me. The woman will most likely be taken to a facility for treatment and hopefully get well as soon as possible. It's how she'll feel once the crisis is over knowing that this whole experience is now loaded onto youtube. I can't imagine how horrible that would feel.

It just touches a nerve or two. I think the least she could be afforded is privacy.

Sorry. :(

I don't think you're being an arse, or anything butt-related at all.

I think we both value the woman's well-being and keeping the public informed but prioritize the two differently. And I can't speak for the people who took the videos but I can tell you my own reasons for posting the article and footage, and they aren't "omg look at the scary lady".

I'm a moderately nervous flyer who has never seen any scary plane-related movie and I probably still would have wanted to escape.

Yeah, but if that movie has taught me anything, it's that you can't escape Death. And that Death will apparently be so pissed off that you tried, that it'll make sure your actual demise is even more, um, spectacular.

that is a good point. wouldn't want to get flattened by a pane of glass. or cut into many pieces by barbed wire.

seriously, i'm amazed at the horrible things they came up with. did ali larter's character eventually get it in one of the sequels?

passengers who wanted drinks were served for free

That rubs me the wrong way, IDK. :X If the flight were comped or they got a discount on their next trip with the airline, I'd be cool with it. But free booze? Eh...

Imagine you are a nervous/skittish flier even if nothing unusual happens before takeoff.

I would have needed drinks to calm down after witnessing that, honestly. I only fly for vacations, and I wouldn't want to miss any vacation time because of the incident (we don't get to travel very often), but I would have needed booze to calm myself.

Yeah this. I don't even really drink and I would've needed one after that! (I'm not opposed to drinking, I just tend to not do it.)
