Feb 29, 2012 21:21

Remember when the group One Million Moms decided to go up against JC Penny and Ellen DeGeneres and failed miserably? Well this time they’re going after Toys R Us and Archie Comics. Shall we start placing bets?

Kevin returns from battle a war hero and the whole gang have assembled to watch him tie the knot! )

oh not this shit again, comics, homophobia, lgbtq / gender & sexual minorities, marriage equality

IKR, How much you want to bet Toys R' US doesn't pull the comic and they end up selling out. I need to go and get myself several copies.

That's pretty much my reaction. I was going to write a comment about the entry, but then I lost my entire thread of thought. Where's that icon art from?

...where were we... oh yes, Archie.

Me brb, too, no Toys'R'Us near me but I know the local Giant carries Archie...

"Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand."

lol, really? What's so complicated about "those two men or those two women love each other, just like Mommy and Daddy do"? No one is asking you to explain the differences between brands of lube or the intricacies of anal sex to your child. Sheesh.

Oh those poor parents. there's going to be a long 18 yrs of awkward topics. You can, as you say, answer them just fine for the 6 yr old mind, and no harm come of it.

People...

Might have to buy my first Archie in like, 20 yrs.:D

This. I'm pretty sure that having kids means signing on for a lot of awkward questions and there's no such thing as a last place you'd expect to hear an awkward question from your child. Not that I think it's a particularly awkward question or that I really buy into the idea that there are topics too complicated for children to understand. If they're old enough to frame the question, they're old enough to have the question answered.

ikr? My mom explained what "gay" means to me when I was about five, in two sentences. I think the concept of "gay marriage" might take an extra sentence, the horror.

This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand.

Some men marry women. Some men marry men. Some women marry women. Some people don't want to marry anyone at all.

I just explained it in four sentences, it's not that goddamn complicated.

Perfection.

Thank you.

Those four phrases are something I figured out on my own by the time I was like, 7. And wow, it didn't turn me into a sex-crazed lesbian socialist devil-worshiper. My psyche was not, in fact, destroyed by the idea of two people in love. Who the fuck knew?

Not even gonna lie, I hope I can find that issue up here in Newfoundland somewhere. I'd buy like every copy

Also, super high-fives to Jon Goldwater. <3

I think we should remove heterosexual marriage on covers too. And any kissing. I don't want to talk to my child about sexual orientation. :-PPPPPPP

SO STUPID I CAN'T STAND IT!

I think we should develop a group that goes against heterosexual marriages/ideas. GRRRR

Sometimes I just have to take some sort of meditation therapy so I can calm down and not feel enraged.
