“Anything that lessens (traditional marriage) lessens society at large. Marriage is the cornerstone of society,” said the Rev. Bill Carmody, with Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs.

And you have yet to meaningfully establish how allowing gay people the right to marry (or, in this case, merely allowing them to access some of the legal protections that marriage generally confers) in any way "lessens" marriage. Is there a finite amount of "marrying" in the world, and you don't want the gays snatching it all up? Is marriage some sort of conspicuous-consumption status symbol, like a yacht or a Lamborghini, where it becomes less impressive if everyone has one? Or maybe it's a legal arrangement between two people that confers certain important rights and protections when those individuals decide to merge their lives into a single family unit, and there's no damn reason to keep it away from gay people.

If marriage is so all-fired sacred, how come the Church passes out annulments like candy (IF your donation is big enough)

Marriage is the cornerstone of society

WTF? Since when? I bet if you asked a hundred random people on the street what "the cornerstone of society" was, not one person would say marriage.

Even if it were, I hardly think that barring a whole class of people from participating in marriage strengthens the institution any.

true enough. There's just so much wrongness it's hard to know where to start. If marriage is so fucking important to society, why are they trying to stop people from participating? homophobe logic is not like earth logic.

Slowly, slowly, chipping away. This *is* going to happen country-wide, but i swear, having to listen to know-nothing Republicans and Xian 'leaders' blather about the 'evils' of same-sex marriage in the mean-time gives me a permanent HULK!SMASH! state of mind.
