I <3 unions. My dad's a union member here in Michigan, and they've always treated him pretty well.

Those pictures are amazing. 75 years isn't all that long ago, but it almost feels so far removed, with the cannons and bayonets in those pictures. And it's sad to think that a lot of the people involved aren't even around anymore. Later in the article, it says Ms. Blakinship is the last living member of the UAW's Women's Emergency Brigade. SO MUCH HISTORY.

My dad was a UAW member from the mid '40's til mid '70's.

Marvelous benefits, and he gave me some decent values to live by.

He was active and went on strike, and my mom always was supportive of him. She worked most of my childhood in a clerical healthcare field.
I have fond memories of my dad, and I believe because he was a strong active union member, he had a better working life and was more involved in his work as a result. he gave me a strong work ethic--was hardly ever gone from work and rarely sick-- and a strong respect for the working person.

I still miss him and he passed away over 20 years ago.

These guys and gals before him in the 1930's were brave and helped everyone get some of the basic rights we all enjoy as workers. Or should be enjoying.

The people who piss and moan about how 'evil' Unions are need to educate themselves and send up a word of thanks to these brave men and women.
