Seriously! Lately almost everything I read here leaves me feeling like I'm living in Bizarro world! Now Canada, which I always thought of as fairly liberal and welcoming, etc. is doing all this weird stuff. I don't even know!
wellllllll...i feel like that's really just stupid phrasing by people who aren't thinking of the consequences of what they say. which is, of course, often the definition of transphobia....but i feel this is likely to be dealt with now that people are bringing it up. so, good for them doing so.
Well, i waffled while typing it, so...I can understand the confusion. Like, clearly the people writing it live in a super cis-gendered world where the most important thing is stopping mostly-imaginary terrorists, and the concept that there are people who live outside the gender binary didn't occur to them. Which is, in itself, full of privilege and probably a vehicle for some jerk to be transphobic.
But I feel like now that it's been noticed, there will be some sort of correction and so it's good that they noticed that it was fucked up and brought it to the public's attention.
Yeah, I don't know why i commented. I should have just said "yes."
I hope they change it quickly, but if they do go "Oh! We forgot this whole group of people this will affect and oh dear, let me change this quickly, this absolutely will not do" they will be the first.
