Hmm, that's interesting. I assume they'll have a referendum about it.

The monarchy has little influence on Canada except in terms of ceremonies and stuff, so I've never really cared one way or another. The weirdest thing would be thinking about our currency without the queen on it. :P

i've never thought about what our money would look like without the queen, but... can you imagine the many ways they'll try and get charles ears to look small when he gets the crown?

i have a tiny coin collection and my two prize pennies have her dad on them. they look so weird,(imo) just because theres a dude there.

i'm a bit of a royalist, but i am not a fan of charles at all. i don't think he is going to bring great things to the crown.

I was so pleased to see Simpson Miller's win on my news feed a couple weeks ago. Not because I know anything about her but because another country made it onto my news feed for something other than a disaster.

Cutting of ties, even symbolic ones, left from colonial times is no doubt a good thing.

Is it beneficial or harmful for them to lose ties with the commonwealth though?

idk... trade/travel/etc.-wise I could see it being somewhat damaging...

I was thinking the same thing, but admittedly I'm not up to date on Jamaican affairs.

not being a nation under the queen dosent stop a country from being a memeber of the comonwealth.

from wiki

Sixteen members of the Commonwealth, known as Commonwealth realms, recognise the Queen as their head of state. The majority of members, thirty-three, are republics, and a further five have monarchs of different royal houses.

The Commonwealth is different from the Commonwealth realms though, isn't it?
