Did the Civil Rights Act of 1964 put America on the path to a police state? The answer is yes, according to Ron Paul, the Texas Republican Congressman and candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Paul explained that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 “destroyed the principle of private ( Read more... )

Libertarians are not the brightest lights in the candelabra,

Be still, my heart

Seriously, though, I'm all for theory and political philosophy, but the world doesn't actually work like that. Less government control is a fabulous idea. It's also as realistic as the idea that we tax people for being idiots. Both are nice ideas, there's just no way to actually implement it.

Ron Paul fanboys like to talk about how his more repulsive ideas are just being ~consistent with his philosophy.~ Dude, your philosophy would directly lead to the disenfranchisement and oppression of so many people. Rethink your fucking ideals. His refusal to do so means he either doesn't know, which is worrying on many levels since he's held these views for decades and wants to be president. Or he knows and approves.

Excellent stuff. Wonder if it will sink into any Libertarian head, or just sort of...bounce off.

Why don't we instead look at his actual voting record or better yet, focus on the fact that Obama just signed NDAA. Our liberties can't be taken lightly.

thank you....it just fucking floors me that someone would come into a post about ron paul's opposition to the motherfucking civil rights act and talk about protecting "liberties."

His voting record is horrendous! He's authored legislation that would define life as beginning at the federal level, thereby invalidating any state laws that allow for abortion. He's voted to prohibit same-sex couples from being able to adopt children.

ESPECIALLY beause the very idea of social contract, which is actually related to earlier Rousseau theories, implies its voluntary, whereas government is not.

um. locke's theories on the social contract actually predate rousseau's work by several decades. just to pick one place where you're absolutely wrong here.

I love it when people who have never actually experienced an armed revolution immediately advocate armed revolutions.

Things I approve of: this message.

Started my American Politics class today and it turns out there's one very determined preacher of the Gospel of Ron Paul in my class, as well as four or five other (quieter) stans. I really, fundamentally do not understand how so many people can like this guy (that said, all of the aformentioned people are white cis dudes, so there's that)
