An ambassador smeared Obama's man in Belgium faces calls for his firing after factual remarks on Israel and anti-Semitism Source: Salon BY Justin Elliott
I also will find way more white non-jewish USians more willing to talk about Israel's crimes against humanity and war/imperialism than the US's (with full accountability) which I always find very suspect in liberal circles.
Really? That's depressing. The same people I know who refuse to believe that the US can do any wrong are the same people who believe Israel can do no wrong.
I don't know if it warrants firing, but I am made very uncomfortable by those remarks. There are ways of talking about the conflict without dismissing antisemitism.
Gutman is Jewish, so that sort of puts it in a different light for me. I feel like he's trying to overrationalize something that's never been rational. Anti-semites have had shifting rationales for thousands of years, and for a lot of them - the really hardcore ones, who actually think it's okay to attack or harass Jews - the Mideast conflict is just another one.
I'm not going to go nuts and call for him to be fired or anything, but I agree - his comments aren't helpful. I haven't seen a real distinction between Jew-haters based on their motivation.
