Last week's Info Post was sad. The comments were sad. And for the rest of the week all of the submitted posts were sad except one or two about trees and cats with bowties, and I was going to post something else sad and dismal but I thought we could all use a break so TODAY WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT FOOD!

Okay, I love all the advice here, but sadly very little will apply to me. While I'm not an adventurous eater, I am willing to try most things, and if it were up to me I'd have veg-filled meals with all healthy proteins and complex carbs...but my fiancé only likes carrots, peas, tomatoes, cucumber, and lettuce (he does like a lot of fruit), white bread, no rice. I have tried to get him to taste other things, but to no avail, and we don't really have the funds for me to have one meal and him to have another most days of the week.

This is probably not going to get anywhere, but does anyone have any thoughts/advice on healthier meals that he might like?

It's a little bit of a textural difference, but I really like spaghetti squash with normal spaghetti sauce. Omnomnom.

Spaghetti squash sounds interesting, but I don't think either of us have really tried squash before. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Np! It comes out all stringy, though, so it's not like your normal mashed or cubed squash. =)

Totally bookmarking this post. My mom's on a restricted diet until she gets her gallbladder removed and I just want to learn to eat better in general.

The tip about gradually mixing in whole grain stuff with what you're normally eating when you're trying to switch is great - I don't really like most whole grain stuff, so I'm going to give that a try so that I can gradually adjust to the taste of it.

Maybe volunteer to cook a few times a week? Try making familiar meals that don't necessarily require meat (pancit or stew) to get them used to having meals without meat. Most people won't cook if someone else has already taken the time to fix something nice so even they gripe a bit they'll probably wind up eating eventually.

Sounds like you need an Eat or Starve policy in your house. If they don't like the dinner that's fixed, find your own food. Besides, that leaves more for a leftover lunch the next day!

Great post.

I'm a pretty crappy cook and fussy eater who tends to stick to the simplest recipes even I can't mess up, so it's usually pasta or fish with rice. I have really bad trouble sleeping and end up feeling sluggish throughout the day and have begun to rely a little too heavily on caffeinated drinks. I know I need to cut them out, it's just getting round to it that's the problem. I really need to sort out my diet.
