I hate that so many people have been treating this like a joke or as if it offends their delicate sensibilities not to wear a racist costume without getting called out on it :(
Mostly college students... IIRC this went up on BoingBoing and people were adamant that it's no more racist than people dressing up as, say, a lawyer. Been seeing similar arguments pretty much any time this gets posted.
Wow, that's a pretty educated mainstream audience, I would think.
I often assume we've been making steady progress since I started paying attention to the culture--clearly I need reminding that the work is constant. Damn, these people are exhausting.
Wow, I love their posters. Succinct, well-phrased, and hard to argue with. I really can't understand people who don't get why this is offensive or who do get and just don't care.
This campaign is awesome and I want to take it out to a romantic, candlelit dinner.
I've never had someone ask me for help being an ~Indian princess~ but I think it's cause most people can't figure out what the fuck to do with a sari. I do admit to being a 'gypsy' one year for Halloween, I really cringe at that now. =/
Yeah, I did the same thing when I was six or seven- except more of a generic "Indian" type than Pocahontas in particular. (The whole buckskin, beads and feathers sort of deal.) :/

Looking at the tumblr, it does appear to be a black stereotype costume. Vile.
