I feel kind of weird about this. I'm a Texan, where we've had a dream act for some time. I'm extremely liberal, and really do support illegal immigrants being able to attend state universities. However, I don't think that state funds should go to illegal immigrants, especially because of our shitty economy right now. Maybe that makes me seem like a terrible person, but I think that an illegal immigrant should have to pay the full tuition.

LOL. SRSLY. Just be quiet now. You are talking hypotheticals and have no clue what you are talking about.

It's telling that you keep using the term illegal.

Protip: By some standards, YOU are an illegal immigrant too, unless you happen to be 100% Native American.

I would imagine and hope that there are advocacy groups & other organizations

So you don't actually know what the hell you're talking about. Okay then!

I clearly said I didn't know for sure. I don't pretend to be an expert. I'm a white middle class Jewish girl from Texas - I definitely grew up with some white privilege.

And? Why are you expecting me to think its okay that you're talking about something you didn't even bother to research about? If you'd actually done the research before arguing, I could at least respect you, but you didn't even do that.

So then you are a descendent of illegal immigrants.

Well, I guess it depends on how you define it. Everyone in this country is an immigrant with the exception of Native Americans. But, my grandmother came to this country legally when she was 7, while there were quota's in place to prevent Eastern Europeans & Jews from entering this country. All of my other relatives also came legally. So I would consider myself to be descended from legal immigrants.

You mean they immigrated legally by the standards of illegal immigrants.

So we should be blamed for the crimes our of our forefathers? The founding of our nation was despicable, but it exists, and there have to be immigration rules in place. I'm not an illegal immigrant just because of how the colonies began. Jamestown was founded in 1607. We're clearly a legal body at this point.

Oh wow, "blamed"? You really think that not being douchebags to people who are worse off than us is some kind of terrible punishment?

SO WAIT.

Kids of illegal immigrants should be blamed for their parents who brought them here.

OMG I SEE YOUR LOGIC, IT IS ALL SO CLEAR NOW.

I never said that. I clearly stated that I don't believe there should be any kind of penalty against them. What I said is that some stupid government official is going to decide that these measures are "good enough" and that immigration reform isn't needed! Which is kind of the opposite, because I would love for people who illegally immigrated to this country to be able to seamlessly transition to being legal immigrants, and I would love for the legal immigration process to be fair.
And if there really are no organizations set up to fund college education for undocumented immigrants, then this world is even shittier than I thought.

But refusing them state funding IS blaming them for it.

And if there really are no organizations set up to fund college education for undocumented immigrants, then this world is even shittier than I thought.

How hypocritical, considering you are a major contributor to that shittiness.

And yet you also said they should be penalized.

And if there really are no organizations set up to fund college education for undocumented immigrants, then this world is even shittier than I thought.

You do realize what being undocumented means, right? How do you propose these myriad organizations set out helping people who, if they admit that they're undocumented, are likely to be deported to a country they don't even remember?

And that, my friend, is how privilege functions. You don't have to know how shitty it is for undocumented immigrants, so you don't. I suggest you go read a book and/or do some Googling.
