so his campaign manager dies while uninsured and he still thinks it's best not to insure thousands and just let them die like that? i can't.

Apparently "campaign manager" is not a useful enough occupation to deserve health insurance.

the churches would be overrun and wouldn't be able to handle the sheer volume of sick people, wouldn't be able to afford it and thats for people who probably subscribe to their beliefs. Would Athiests and others-LGBT, for example-be able to find safe haven there?

Vegas money's on no.

Seriously. I don't know any church that'd take me. Or that would be capable of handling the medical bills my queer, trans, disabled ass wracks up.

Pagan, queer, disabled. Possssssibly the Unitarian Universalists might help if they had the resources. But that's the question. The bigger churches that have all the resources? Would rather let me rot.

My church-- UCC-- would take you.

You'd think that Ron Paul would have lent a helping hand to the guy who raised $19.5 million for him.

I used to think that their rabid hatred of social welfare programs came from a belief in the ability of anyone to be successful if they made the right choices and that they sincerely believed that charitable people would take over when the government didn't provide. Now I know they're just monsters.

nah, if he cant raise his own money to pay his own medical bills then he clearly didnt work hard enough to earn his bootstraps to survive. That's their logic.

I can't help but wonder whether or not this guy asked Paul for help. And then what Paul's answer was...

He kept it quiet until he passed away. When the wife received the bill, a call to action went out and volunteers for the campaign paid for it.

Waiting for bludstone's thoughts on this, tbh. I'm dying to see if he'll even bother trying to rationalize this.

The fact that Ron Paul's views didn't cahnge when they affected him directly shows he has principles, which is rare for anyone in elected office. This also makes him inflexible, but being "rounded in reality" really means that your soul is for sale (of course some of the most effective Presidents were not known for a sense of honor). He also makes for a good protest vote.

This is also why I am not an ideological purist.

I don't care how principled you are. If someone close to you is dying, you should be deeply affected by it and try to do something about it.

But, but, but! Principles!

Nonsense. The fact his views didn't change when he was slapped in the face with their vast and idiotic wrongness shows he is a fool. Or heartless. Or possibly a robot from the planet Zog.
