Nikki Haley Wants To Drug Test Applicants For Unemployment Benefits

Sep 09, 2011 11:34

Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday she wants to institute drug testing for people who apply for state unemployment benefits.

"I so want drug testing," Haley told a receptive, hometown gathering of Rotarians at a breakfast reception held at the Country Club of Lexington. "It's something I've been wanting since the first day I walked into office."

Gods forbid we treat drug addiction as a medical condition and not just an easy way for "lazy" people to avoid contributing to society...

But isn't it really only applicable as a medical condition if the addict wants to get better? If not, the implication that it can be "cured" or "treated" is removed. Mental and physical ailments like depression or lung cancer shouldn't be noted when testing applicants for unemployment benefits, because while these factors might interfere with one's ability to get and keep a job, it's implied that a person with depression or lung cancer would try to get better. They didn't choose to be depressed or have lung cancer. A drug addict also may not have chosen to get so addicted that it interferes with their ability to get a job, but that seems like it'd be a rare case, and drug addicts don't necessarily want to kick their addiction.

Granted I'm not an expert or anything, and could be wrong. But from observation, it seems that people who are dependent on a substance don't "want to get better" (for lack of better phrasing) because they believe they can't function without that substance. And there is a difference between addicts, and people who just like getting fucked up, you know?

I suppose. But society's a long way from distinguishing from a hardcore drug addict and your average high-functioning stoner.

You know what? FUCK YOU.

Can we get drug testing for all these assholes paid with taxpayer dollars? I mean, after all, if it weren't for taxpayers, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE A MOTHERFUCKING JOB, ASSHOLE. And I refuse to believe that that level of sociopathy and utter lack of empathy for fellow humans is fucking NATURAL, so I think you're on something. Maybe YOU should be drug-tested, you damn witch.

Holy fucking shit, what the fucking hell is wrong with this country?

FWIW, many/most government jobs *do* drug test. My friends who have unpaid internships in my local court have all been tested.

True, but it's very rare that it's the government assholes always SUGGESTING the drug tests (when really they should just come out and say I FUCKING HATE POOR PEOPLE) that get drug tested.

How about we drug test everyone who takes the mortgage interest deduction on a second home? They could be hiding/manufacturing drugs in that second home! Taxpayers shouldn't be funding rich guys' grow ops!
