It's not like J. Edgar Hoover's obsession with secrets went and ruined the lives of innocent people - OH WAIT.

In other words: This.

He must have some really interesting stories. Which I would love to hear. *__*

'Course, I'm a history buff, especially the more 'turbulent' eras in American Political history. :D

Hoover was a very horrible person if only for his willingness to completely destroy the lives of others often for no real reason. -___- Bringing him up in this article the author shows just how little research he did.

What the FUCK was this?

"Oh, a black man wasn't really about civil rights, it was all the white republicans! We're awesome! MLK Jr. SUCKS! GO US! Vote for us, black people! WE LOVE YOU. NO REALLY!"

Really?

...FUCKING REALLY?

Wakaba?

Sorry, got distracted by your icon.

I think I was particularly thrown by the assertion that he opposed the Vietnam war as if this were a bad or strange thing to do. I... kind of remember quite a lot of people opposing the Vietnam war.

I love my Utena icons. :D

And yeah, no kidding. A lot of people opposed the war. Dr. King was hardly the only one. And even hardly the only high profile person to do so.

I'd ask if this is real life, but I'm pretty sure it is. papermint September 2 2011, 22:34:40 UTC

Article is bullshit.

I have a question though. Recently, I ran into someone who claimed that MLK plagiarized a lot of the things he wrote. He was a white lolbertarian, so I'm reluctant to believe him to say the least. Has anyone else heard about this? Is there any merit to the claim? If it is complete bullshit, when did it start?

There's a Stormfront affiliated site that's number 4 on Google search. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where he got his disinformation from.

The King's Papers Project at Stanford apparently has a lot more examples of borrowed bits of other people's sermons from throughout his career as well, but I can't find any clear indication of how much or how frequently.

From what I could find, there was material taken too directly from other works in his thesis, but he was upfront about the sources he used. So it sounds like bad form academically, but no attempt at conspiracy.

And all the claims about his speeches being plagiarized have been complete nonsense.

Didn't read all this shit. Skipped the last couple of paragraphs. In fact, half of the reasons this guy hates King is why I like King.

Also: In their eyes, the United States was an evil empire driven by white oppression, militarism and capitalist exploitation. It's not?

That was my thought. These were all good things about King, and anyone who tries to say the U.S. is not driven by white oppression, militarism and capitalist exploitation is deluding themselves.
