AMES, Iowa (AP) - Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann won a test vote of Iowans on Saturday, a show of strength five months before the state's caucuses kick off the GOP presidential nominating season.

The result is the first indication of what Iowans think of the field of Republicans competing for the chance to challenge President Barack Obama next ( Read more... )

It's either a bad attempt at a "hip hop bbq" kind of name or someone watched too much Star Trek.

But this could mean that we could demand Tim Pawlenty's birth certificate. After all, isn't his real name T'Paw and isn't he really from the planet Vulcan? And wouldn't he have a hard time carrying out his duties as president if we have to live in constant fear of him flying into a violent sexual frenzy?

If she wins the Republican nomination, what are the chances she would actually beat Obama?

I'm terrifyingly cynical that it's possible unless A) liberals, moderates and democrats in general can either get behind Obama on a re-elect or someone new, or B) the country realizes through an election process just how absolutely horrid she would be. The chances for A are probably 60%-ish, the chances for B are 10%-ish

I never believed that Ronald Reagan was electable (after the terrible job his did as governor of California). I never believed that George Bush Jr. was electable (the stupid, it burns). So I am not the person to ask.

Two things scare the shit out of me:

1. She could get elected. How scary is that thought? OR
2. She makes the garden-variety right-wing extremist candidate (whichever one *does* get the nomination) look rational in comparison. Thus, she gets someone else elected at as a "center right" candidate, when in fact they are a wing nut.

It's sweet that you keep expecting rational thought from people.

lol this was my exact reaction

but, she probably won't win the nomination. Iowa is rarely a predictor, much less the Iowa straw poll.

Yeah, Pat Robertson won this some years back. Thankfully, it doesn't mean shit.
