It's mostly based on faulty assumptions and a less-than-rigorous scientific method - since it's very difficult to study our evolutionary history, a lot of the research is done with comparative primate studies and a lot of speculation. It's also very essentialist, which is something that even the most hardcore biological psychologists and neuroscientists shy away from. Evolutionary psychologists attribute almost everything we do to hormonal and primal physical drives and nearly nothing to environmentally shaped factors; not only that, they use primal physical drives from like our "hunter-gatherer" days when the world has changed in the 10,000 years or so since humans were living in caves
