It is one of the worst child poverty rates in the industrialised world, and successive governments continue to struggle to bring it into line. So who are these children, and where are they living? I would assume though that the thugs are products of the poverty as is their behavior. That's not to justify their actions but I do think it's this climate that creates problems like this in society and that's where the connection comes from.

Poverty has been and never will be justification for committing crime. As the child of an immigrant who grew up very poor in a non-western country, that has been drummed into my head since birth. no excuses.

The whole thing with BCH made me fume. The first I'd heard about that was a report where a couple said that they were kept away from their dying child because of the hospital being locked down from fear of attack.

I really cannot understand the mentality of anyone who thinks attacking a building full of some of the country's sickest children, and those caring for them, will make people give a shit about their cause, whatever it is.

Does it help to know everyone feels the same way? I'd just like to see people demand more social support even out of self-interest, if they won't do it because it's the right thing to do.

This looks like a really interesting documentary and I'd like to thank you for posting it.

In fact I will... thank you.

However, it's not about the riots. Let's not forget the people in their level of poverty who are currently victims of the widespread violence, looting and arson in those communities...

Three days straight of this message and you think we're still unaware of the victims?

I'm sorry that you can only hold two thoughts in your head: good guys and bad guys. Life must be very difficult for you.

I believe I was saying the complete opposite of what you just accused me of saying. I was saying that there's not just rioters and rich people. There's also poor people whose communities are being destroyed.

It must be so easy for you to romanticise this from across the Atlantic, but things are a little more complicated over here than you seem to be prepared to accept.

Poverty absolutely leads to desperation and many criminals did start out as ordinary kids in horrible circumstances. Pretending crime, poverty and deprivation aren't connected isn't going to help anyone or the situation in general and writing people off when they are still children is actually unforgivable in my book.

And this is based on...? I'm seeing weeks of analysis ahead and I doubt any will be as simplified as this? Of course there's opportunism but I do NOT believe that explains everyone on the street.

Honestly, did Mum and Dad give you this analysis over breakfast?

And this is based on...?

A combination of evidence and common sense. Grow up.

So... because you don't agree with someone's opinion, you accuse them of being stupid and ill-informed? Well that's mature.
