Been looking for a comprehensive break down of just the facts, and not reactions/opinions to the results of the latest talks all freaking day, so this pretty great; thanks, esp. as a non-American observer.
For now, yes. But the interesting thing seems to be the joint committee on deficit reduction - if that committee ever recommended massive tax increases on, say, the rich, the GOP might have to choose between voting for tax increases on the wealthy or allowing massive automatic cuts to Pentagon spending (which apparently does not include cuts to veterans' benefits).
On the other hand, while Social Security and Medicaid are protected from the automatic cuts, Medicare isn't, so...
