The Most Incredible Thing Fox News Has Ever Done

Jul 17, 2011 13:58

Or at least the most amazingly brazen I can think of at this moment.

Via Erik Wemple of the Washington Post, the simply unbelievable Fox and Friends segment below. It's about the News of the World hacking scandal.

To the good: they treat hacking as a problem and scandal. To the incredible/bad: they present their (now closed) UK sister publication ( Read more... )

I'm not even trying to be surprised at this point. I have zero faith in Fox, or indeed any part of Murdoch's empire. For all that their followers like to quote Orwell, they're doing a bloody fabulous job of rewriting history.

Also, that 99% of employees having nothing to do with it? It's sort of bullshit. Hacking on that scale implies that it was a far wider thing than just one person. There probably were innocent employees, but I'm finding it hard to defend anyone who wrote for a paper like that in the first place.

I can't get over this, this entire story makes no sense. "Hacking is a big problem that we need to deal with, but let's all stop talking about how our sister newspaper hacked people because darnit, Rupert Murdoch apologized. What about China, huh? They hacked! Stop talking about us, talk about them!" How... is that... news.

Well, it was ONLY a couple of people who did it, let's move on folks. And talk about your overreactions - hundreds of people lost their jobs over it.

Funny how they didn't feel that way about ACORN.

It seemed hypocritical as fuck. Like, stfu about British people doing it to a murdered schoolgirl/7/7 victims and soldiers and get over it, but China hacking the US is an unforgivable huge problem that everyone needs to be angry about. wtf? I'm not saying people shouldn't be pissed about the Pentagon being hacked but... what?

bad: they present their (now closed) UK sister publication News of the World as a victim of the hacking problem, rather than as a perpetrator.

But if hacking wasn't so easy, they wouldn't have done it. We're all victims! ;)

Not even gonna comment on the story, because whose surprised?

But, wtf kind of news anchor was that!? He was shit. Although not as cringe worthy as some other guy I saw on youtube from fox news before doing coverage of the royal wedding I think and i was like, 'how the eff did this guy get a job? This is a hot mess. He can't present coverage for crap.' I was in a state of shock at how shoddy he was. Even if your right wing and this appeals to your political sensibilities, I couldn't sit through the piss poor way it's delivered.

I remember a time when there was the news segment and then it was, "and now for our commentary". You didn't have commentary all mixed in with the news; there was a definite separation point. With Fox you have to search for little bits of news among all the opinion that's being thrown around.
