This whole thing is just utterly disgusting. I can't even comprehend how these people can intrude on the grief of others like this. AND, in the Milly Dowler case, give her family/friends false hope by deleting messages so that they could get more stories out of her voicemail. DA FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?

I just read Enron by Lucy Prebble today, the play based on the financial disaster. Jeffrey Skilling, the former Enron president, when brought before congressional hearings after the company went bankrupt due to creative accounting and turning in false profits, tried to convince everyone that he had no knowledge of events going on in his own company. This became known as the Jeffrey Skilling defence. Sounds like Rebekah Brooks and her whole lot have been taking notes here.

Yeah, I just wanted to combine my liberal anger with my pretentious theatre nerd self.

Well played ;)

And yes, obviously she knew.

*nerd* It is a damn good play though. Why don't all theatre pieces about massive financial fraud feature dinosaurs?

There's two options here - either she knew, authorised the hackings and is therefore a disgusting, amoral human being, or she didn't know (which I find nigh on impossible to believe) and is therefore so incompetent as an editor and team leader that she shouldn't be allowed to leave the house without her address pinned to her jacket. It's not hard to draw conclusions here.

urgh, the latest is that they hacked the phones of families of dead soldiers. :(

Yeah, re Brooks - either she's an idiot or a liar. My money's on the latter.

She knows laws were broken, this bullshit screen will melt like a chocolate teapot. She even admitted that they paid Met police officers for information, FFS, she can't pretend.

These fuckers are stupid as well as morally bankrupt.

The whole story is, as one MP put it today in the HoC, as full of holes as a fishnet condom.

Yes that metaphor happened.

Oh *please* She knew. Even *if* she didn't actively encourage it, she must have known it was going on and turned a blind eye to it. There's a special place in hell for what she and Murdoch did. Hacking the phones of Politicians and celebs is bad enough, but deleting Milly's voicemail messages and giving her family false hope that she was still alive? Hacking the phones of the July 7th victims?

Throw the damn book at her and Murdoch. I hope his empire crumbles.

I can so easily see the "turning a blind eye" scenario being the case.
